Friday Dec 9th

11s-  Journals #1-4 are due Tuesday Dec 13th.  I will mark 2...indicate to me which two you'd like me to mark.  Look at the rubric and the example for guidance.  Beef up and polish your entries prior to handing  your journal in.

Entries so far:

#4 (today)- "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.  Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved."  Helen Keller

#3 You Tube Clip - why students don't read what is assigned - watched clip...your reactions

#2 "A love of tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their time of peril; but the new view must come, the world must roll forward."  Winston Churchill

#1 "Life's most urgent and persistent question is what are you doing for others?"  Martin Luther King

Today we began our reading of Lord of the Flies (LOTF) and discussed how and why Golding wrote the novel.  Finish reading chapter 1 and complete character chart for Ralph and Piggy.

10s - Today we sped through Act 4...Masks and explanations are due on Tuesday Dec 13th.  You will write a R + J test (so study the terms we've looked at so far) and write a character paragraph based on your inferences/quote worksheet.

Wed Dec 7th

11s- Today classes were put in a hypothetical survival situation in order to see how people might treat each other/react if they were ever stranded together on a deserted island.  The results were very telling...
We're moving into a study of Lord of the Flies; it will be interesting to see how the reactions we saw in class today are similar to the characters in the novel.

Due Friday Dec 9th:  "The Painted Door" 11 sentence paragraph good + rough copy

10s- our lightening speed tour of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is starting to get very complicated.  Students need to pre-read Act 4 (it's short), get ready to work on their masks, and finish 6 quotes/inferences sheet.

Thursday Dec 1

Visual Response Projects -  all classes and students participated in small group presentations today.  It was so great to see students communicating about their reading with each other.  You've all convinced me that this format (though not perfect) is worthwhile!

For Monday:  READ, finish reflection (you'll be handing in reflection + evaluation sheet you filled out in your groups on Monday)

Reflection:

1.  Did you have everything required?  Yes? Why were you able to 'have it all'?
No? What are you missing?  Why?

2.  What was the experience like? -the process of creating project -presenting in small groups

3.  3 things I was impressed with today...

4.  3 things I was not impress with today...

5.  3 ways I was successful...

6.  3 ways I could have improved...

***All students will hand in reflection + peer evaluation sheets on Monday...

Have a great weekend!  See you Monday.
