Fri Sept 30th

Today we considered the difference between summarizing and inferencing and the importance of making inferences as you read.  We worked through SMART reading #3 an article, "Reaction- Interaction" with two goals: to summarize and to make inferences.  Most students finished chunk 1 and chunk 2 and have started their Quickwrites (make sure they are quick - no longer than 7-10 minutes).

Homework:  finish SMART Reading #3 - complete Quickwrite, New Connections/Ideas, I Noticed, and Goal for next time - handed in on Tuesday Oct 4th.

We will continue to work through privacy/technology paragraphs on Tuesday, students are not responsible to complete paragraph at this stage...we'll work on it on Tuesday.

Looking forward to October!  Have a great weekend.

Mon Sept 19th

Today we started keeping track of novels on a Reading Chart.  We spent today considering VOICE/PICTURES/FLOW and what that means in terms of writing.  You should be able to define what each of these terms means and how it applies to your writing.

We started a piece of writing entitled 'I am (insert your name here), the reader/writer'.  I shared my own example and students began to write their own piece.

Homework 11s and 10s:  complete first draft of 'I am  (insert your name here), the reader/writer' for the 21st.  Good copy format will be explained next day and will be due on the 26th.

10s only...finish September survey and hand in next day.

Overdue:  SMART Reading 1 & 2, binder checks, parent forms
