Not English 9 related, but worth a look...

A friend posted this video on Facebook and I thought I'd share it with you.  In grade 9 you're not driving yet, but you will be soon...and you have people in your life that do drive.

This is a video that highlights the dangers of texting while driving.  Check it out - because you'll be driving soon and you'll be tempted, and in the meantime you already know people that do both...sometimes at the same time.

Monday Jan 14th

Today presentation dates for novel projects were assigned...students need to be ready to go on their date.  Make sure you read over the rubric and that you've thought through how and what you're going to share with us.

Romeo and Juliet mask project is up next.  WORK TIME-Friday June 18th, DUE DATE- Thursday June 24th.  Students need to choose between 2-10 lines from the play that they can base a meaningful mask on.

Today we focused on 2.3 and met Friar Laurence.  We listened to the scene (iambic pentameter, rhyming couplets) and noted different examples of figurative language.

HOMEWORK- READ, choose you mask lines and notes line references on handout, get materials ready for Friday

Thursday Jan 10th

Today we listened, discussed, and played with 2.2, The Balcony Scene.   Compliments, Juliet's responses, and plans for marriage...a wonderful scene!!!

We then continued to work on our Zeferelli vs. Luhrman piece.  Students were given a paragraph frame/outline as well as a list of 'no nos'.  Answer the following:  Which movie version of Romeo and Juliet would Shakespeare approve and why?  Which version do you prefer and why?  Topic sentences will be stamp checked next day.

Homework:  READ, write topic sentence
